For those of us interested in social media, it's about finding a community of peers, making connections, learning from and supporting each other.

Social Media Breakfast Ottawa wants to help you do this by bringing you interesting, entertaining and timely speakers along with lots of real networking time over our (mostly) monthly breakfasts.

We'll keep the event to 90 minutes, focusing on providing an opportunity for attendees to meet each other. To spark conversation and discussion, we're pleased to welcome a guest speaker.

What's up for Breakfast 22?

In spite of the chilly temperatures, it's beginning to look a lot like Spring in the Nation's Capital. To kick off a season most associated with themes of renewal and, well, spring cleaning, our motivator in programming Breakfast 22 was influenced by the adage "out with the old, in with the new." So, all the way from Toronto (n.b. the Brit accent will make him seem more exotic), we've invited Dave Fleet to join us! Dave is going to kick off the season by leading us in a discussion about major trends in social media. It's a constantly renewing talk that Dave had first delivered at our sister Breakfast in Waterloo and most recently rocked the house with at PodCamp Toronto. Dave's presentation promises to be as fast paced as our industry and updated based on his work as Vice President, Digital with Edelman Canada and experience as a leader in the social media community.

About Dave

As Vice President, Digital, Dave Fleet leads Edelman's Digital practice in Toronto, providing strategic counsel and advice for clients such as RIM, Johnson & Johnson, Unilever, Pfizer, Kraft, Labatt and Red Bull. Dave merges an understanding of relationships and community building with expertise in communications to provide a range of integrated communications and social media services for clients.

Prior to joining Edelman, Dave developed and executed strategic and social media communications programs for some of North America's largest organizations, including Rogers Communications, Royal Bank of Canada, Atlantic Lottery Corporation, Travelocity, Allstate, Pfizer, Toronto Hydro and Molson. He also worked for nearly five years within strategic communications in the public sector.

Dave is a well-known figure in the social media environment, and is regularly quoted in tier one media such as the Globe and Mail, National Post, Toronto Star, Toronto Sun and CityNews discussing digital communications. His blog, davefleet.com, is dedicated to exploring the intersection of public relations, social media and marketing.

An award-winning communicator with both public and private sector experience, Dave holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and is co-organizer of Canada's largest social media event, PodCamp Toronto. In his spare time, Dave is an avid bookworm, video-gamer and marathon runner.

We hope you'll join us in welcoming Dave back to the Nation's Capital! See you in April!

SMBOttawa

SMBOttawa has been organized and hosted by Simon Chen, Rob Lane and Ryan Anderson since 2008. SMBOttawa's breakfast networking events are inspired and have evolved from the Social Media Breakfast concept started by Bryan Person in Boston:

". . . as an almost-monthly event where social media experts and newbies alike come together to eat, meet, share, and learn. Marketers, PR pros, entrepreneurs, bloggers, podcasters, new media fanatics, and online social networkers are all welcome to attend."
